Deconstruction of Narrative

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elpv_9UUTmw
Skins: The techniques used in this clip:

Representation: The representation shown within this clip is of the stereotyping of the feminine and masculine perceptions within society. The male within this scene is shown as being chivalrous by sacrificng his own comfort of wearing shoes and warmth of his jacket to give to the female that is in a worst off position than him. The female character in this clip is stereotyped with the maiden in distress needing help from someone which comes in the for of Thomas (the male character)

Codes and Conventions: The amount of make up that Emily is wearing buts across the impression that she is a teenage girl as within today's society girls are seen as being self concious and using make up to alter what they truly look like in order for them to change themselves to what they think is acceptable. The fact that they are taking the bus rather then driving also puts the characters into the teenage category as this is the mode of transport most commonly taken by teens.

Shot type: most of the shots in his scene are eye line close up shots to really portray the emotion of the characters to better help the audience see how the emotion fits with the scene.

Sound: the non diagetic sound in this scene is music with the words "runaway" being repeated. this song could have been used as a form to represent the situation as Emily could have been running away or she is trying to run away from the problems in her life. the diagetic sound within this scene is the noise within the environment (ie cars) and the speech of the two characters. the use of the environment sounds adds realism to the scene.

Editing techniques: cut aways are used a lot within the conversation of the two characters as the camera cuts to the character that is talking to show you with an over the shoulder shot what the other character is seeing.
